Curriculum Statement

Two Rivers High School

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Curriculum Statement

Statement of Intent for the D of E curriculum:

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Two Rivers High School is a programme for young people aiming to give them the opportunity to experience new activities or develop existing skills.

Aims of the D of E Curriculum:

There are three progressive levels of programmes which when successfully completed lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Each Award is divided into sections - volunteering, physical, skills and an expedition. Each section focuses on developing a core aspect of a young person in a fun yet challenging manner. They have very specific aims and purposes and by doing them all, young people will help their community, develop new skills, grow in confidence, improve their talent and gain a greater appreciation of the world.

The mission is ‘to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development and recognise their achievements.’

How do we implement the D of E curriculum?

The DofE curriculum allows young people to create their own programme by choosing a volunteering, physical and skills activity and participating in an expedition. Each section focuses on developing a core aspect of a young person in a fun yet challenging manner. The aims are very specific and by completing them all within school and during their own time outside of school, young people will help and benefit their community, learn new skills, develop their confidence, talents and gain a wider appreciation of the world around them.

Impact of the D of E curriculum:

Students will undertake a variety of tasks and activities which will prepare them for a two/three day, overnight navigational expedition.
